Vintage ESKIMO Alaska FUR PARKA COAT with FUR HOOD Picture(s) and Description:
VINTAGE INUIT/ESKIMO STYLE FUR PARKA DESCRIPTION You are bidding on a gorgeous, and rare, full fur parka made by TOTEM HOUSE FURS of Anchorage, Alaska. We found this unique item at a local estate sale and the previous owner believed this item was purchased in Anchorage in the mid 1940's and retailed for over $600.00. We did some research on Totem House and believe they were fine producers of furs in the Anchorage area from the late 1930's to the early 1960's. We are not sure of the exact fur of the pelts, but, would guess the fur around the hood, wrist and hem to be wolf. The fur is a gorgeous red/honey color and has a beautiful sheen and it appears each pelt is sewn on seperately in a up/down stripe pattern. The coat has a metal front zipper closure and the zipper is stamped "Talon". The wrists are trimmed in fur and feature amazing leather pieces with Inuit/Eskimo/Alaskian animal hand-sewn/painted panels. The coat also has the same leather panels encircling the entire bottom hem and this is also fully fur trimmed. There are hip slit side pockets. The interior is a brown quilted material and the interior does show the previous owners intials "DEB" embroidered on the side. The original brand tag is intact and states "Totem House Furs...Anchorage Alaska...a product of Alaskan Craftsmen". The condition of the coat is excellent. pre-owned with the fur having a gorgeous lustre and the leather is perfect with no paint loss or loose stitching. We were told that there was one loose pelt (along a seam) but we have yet to find it ( just to let the buyer know). There is no size tag. We would estimate this to be a current Misses Size 6/8. MEASUREMENTS CHEST FLAT ACROSS ARMPIT to ARMPIT 18" WAIST FLAT ACROSS 18" SLEEVE LENGTH SHOULDER to WRIST 20" COAT LENGTH FROM SHOULDER to BOTTOM HEM 28" Words cannot describe how extraordinary this one-of-a-kind item is...the pictures do not capture the uniqueness and artful prescence! Please email with any questions and thanks for looking.
